How did you celebrate Earth Day?
There’s plenty of talk on radio and tv talk shows, the news, and all over the internet about Earth Day today. Composting, reduce, reuse, and recycle are the buzz words everywhere. As you look at the size of your carbon footprint, remember, one fruitcake can do more damage than 10,000 baby diapers, and of course, is just as disgusting and inedible.
There are millions of fruitcakes sitting in cupboards all around the world, just waiting to be unleashed, and regifted, during the next holiday gift-giving season. We implore you to do your part to save Mother Earth. Find those fruitcakes and recycle them, or you could be the unlucky recipient next Christmas. Do it now, or regret it later.
Thanks for helping us in the fight against fruitcake proliferation. Together, we can make a difference, one fruitcake at a time.
Fruitcake Shortage
The Manitou Springs Great Fruitcake Toss, scheduled for this Saturday, January 9, is running into a snag no one could predict. Believe it or not, they are running short of fruitcake. Their Facebook Page today issued a plea for anyone who has unwanted fruitcakes to drop them off at the Chamber office.
Seriously? A fruitcake shortage? This is the thing The Great Fruitcake Recycling Project dreams of. We look forward to worldwide fruitcake scarcity it our lifetime.

National Fruitcake Toss Day
National Fruitcake Toss Day is celebrated the first Sunday of January. That means this year it is today, January 3.
What is this day about? Getting rid of fruitcakes that have accumulated during the holiday season. You could be irresponsible and throw them in the trash, if you like, but The Great Fruitcake Recycling Project has a much better idea: send them to us for recycling. That way, you will be honoring the tradition of getting rid of your fruitcakes, and show your concern for the environment by recycling. You’ll look like a hero.
Send your securely wrapped fruitcakes to:

Make sure to include your return address with your fruitcake so we can send your “Fruitcake Contributor” button.
Of course, if you really want to celebrate the day, you can save them until Saturday to use them at the Manitou Springs Great Fruitcake Toss, and then send them to us after you participate. We’re okay with that, too. As long as they don’t end up causing irreparable environmental damage in the landfill, everyone wins.
Family Traditions
This is the type of environmentally-conscious family that brings a tear to my eyes. They kept regifting a fruitcake for at least 12 years.
Fruitcake trading is a family tradition
I’ll forgive them for repeating the tired Johnny Carson fruitcake joke. It inspired a wonderful tradition. The earth would be a much better place if every family followed suit.
Fruitcake Contributor Buttons
We are excited to announce the latest shipment of fruitcake recycling buttons has arrived. These are available exclusively to fruitcake contributors as our way of acknowledging your participation in the fight against fruitcake proliferation.
Asour way of saying “Thank You,” we will send each fruitcake contributor an exclusive “I recycled a fruitcake” button so you can show your family and friends how environmentally conscious you are. Mail your securely wrapped fruitcake to:
